Through all of the recent readings and recordings that I've watched concerning connecting to and engaging my audience, a few things really stand out. The first being is that we have to know our and think about how we will connect with them. One key way to engage our audience and make that connection is through the heart. It's that emotional appeal that will grab our audience's attention and hold it as we make our logical appeals. Getting our audience's thinking takes getting in their hearts first.
In terms of media, something that immediately shuts down my engagement is background music that overtakes the speaker; also, if the music is annoyingly rough or upbeat, I just exit the video. I'm thinking this could be the personal preferences of our audience; however, just in case I try to pick music that is a tad subtle and turn it down when I record so it's not too loud.
