Most people don't look forward to crucial conversations; those times when a conversation really needs to happen but it's a high stakes situation, strong emotions are involved, and differing opinions exist. The bottom line though is that if these conversations don't take place, growth and change won't take place either. The strategies that are given by the authors of Crucial Conversations serve as a tool kit to help people work through what could be a difficult conversation.
When people have the tools to help them get things done, they are more likely to approach a task than run away from it. I think that learning the tools and using them effectively to have Crucial Conversations is beneficial both in and out of our careers. Checking our own stories, motives, creating safety for the conversation, really hearing what others are feeling and thinking is really important if we want change to occur.
