The above is a short list of some of the resources I like to use. My innovation plan is a school-wide EPortfolio initiative.  In the research I’ve done so far, one of the greatest needs in implementing ICT is having a hands-on, grow and learn opportunity, that is on-going in which teachers have the time to build up their capacity to use and in turn teach others’ ICT skills. I’ve been mulling over what I’d like to focus on for my article; while I could write about the acquisition of technological skills, which are certainly necessary for the creation and use of EPortfolios, I’ve decided instead to write about supporting teachers in helping students write reflections that show deep metacognitive thought.

I’m an English major and I know from experience that teaching students to write isn’t exactly easy.  In the research I’ve done, the studies show that the lack of deep reflection within the EPortfolio is an issue and that students need to be taught how to go beyond a superficial description of the steps they’ve taken. This metacognitive piece is an integral part of EPortfolios.  It’s one of the essential attributes that make the EPortfolio unlike a portfolio of the past. It’s a necessary component and one that I can see, based on research findings, that I will need to provide the proper support for fellow educators when we begin my school-wide EPortfolio initiative.
