How Many Ways?

Young scientist Hyrum Green's video, "All Washed Up" entertainingly demonstrates the power of using all six sources of influence.  Overwhelming success in the kid hand washing experiment  doesn't happen until the end when a peer reminds students to wash their hands.  What's revealed though the interviews with the kids though is that it wasn't this last influence that actually  made them wash their hands; there were different influences that motivated each of the kids interviewed that made them change their course and wash their hands whether it was the poster, the peer using social pressure, or personal motivation.

This illustrates why it's so important for us to use all six sources of influences because we won't know which one of them will work.  Yes, it's true someone could use just one and be successful; however, as the author's of Influencer point out, that's just luck.  Hyrum Green also points out that adults tend to use one or two sources of influence and then give up when these fail to produce the desired results.  With the implementation of our Innovation Plans, we need to make sure that we leverage our success by thinking of and planning for all six sources of influence.
